Children are taught to develop an understanding of basic spelling patterns and grammar using Read Write Inc phonics scheme. This supports areas of literacy, and with good quality children’s literature always available, children attain an above average standard of reading and writing on leaving, when compared nationally.
Reading has a high profile. Children will read daily and also have several reading books to take home to read to, and with, parents at home. A reading diary will also go home for parents’ comments. Writing is taught in a developmetal way, with children writing for a range of purposes across the curriculum.
